A unique scene has been drawing many passersby in recent days in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province - a blooming bunch of pink bougainvillea cascading down a residential building and forming a breathtaking "flower waterfall" that stretches nine stories.

The plant was grown by a father and a son, surnamed Luo, who live in the building. Over 28 years of meticulous care, the bougainvillea, which was planted in the ground, climbed higher each year, finally reaching the ninth floor.

"This is spectacular. It reminds me of the vitality of life, and I believe it must have witnessed countless wonderful stories around it," one local resident said in a video circulating on China's social media platforms.

A local botanist, Wang Ying, explained that the reason it can grow so tall is that the weather in Guangzhou at this time of the year is normally wet and warm, which provides the bougainvillea a favorable environment for growth. What's more, its roots are planted directly on the ground rather than in a flower pot, so that nutrients drawn from the roots can pass along to all the branches.
