Eight abandoned buses perched at the top of a 60-meter-high cliff in Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality have been converted into a motel that tourists and novelty seekers can stay in for 28 yuan ($4) a night.

Looking like the ruins of a lost civilization in an apocalyptic scene, the buses, hidden among trees and forests, were placed on four-layer steel structure supporting platforms, with each layer five meters high and each platform 68 square meters in area.

"The buses were fixed on the lower steel supporting platform with embedded parts, therefore the structure is very solid," said Zeng Hao, one of the designers of the motel.

Each bus is furnished with a sofa and multiple bunk beds. "Passengers" can enjoy the cliff view through the windows of the buses on a mountain 600 meters above sea level.

Chongqing is known as a "3D city of mountains" in China, due to its combination of mountainous terrain and urban architecture, and has been a source of inspiration for many artists as well as a city of adventures for fun seekers.
