Different types of loans for various purposes, including loans for betrothal gifts, wedding ceremonies and even buying graveyard plots went viral on China's social media recently. Netizens say these abnormal loans indeed expand their imaginations.

A poster of the betrothal gift loan by Bank of Jiujiang in Central China's Jiangxi Province topped the Sina Weibo search trending list on March 16. The poster vowed the product can "lend a stable happiness" for the borrower and can offer at most 300,000 yuan ($40,090) for betrothal gifts, which soon drew the attention and discussion of some netizens.

Most netizens showed negative attitudes toward the loan product and believed the loan would only solve the "surface problems", but cannot cure the corrupt custom of paying "sky-high" betrothal gifts before marriage in some areas of China.

On March 18, Bank of Jiujiang apologized on its official social media account for causing attention and for the negative social impact. The bank had punished related employees, including dismissing and fining those involved, and also vowed to correct corrupt customs and accelerate the rectification processes.

In addition, netizens also discovered some strange loan products, such as loans for graveyard plots. According to a media report, a cemetery in Kunming of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, along with a local bank, offers a graveyard loan product for people to mortgage graveyard plots, which value at 80,000 yuan each.

Some observers said the loan will only load more financial burdens on the children's shoulders and add more credit risks.

What's more, strange loan products such as "gardener loan" for teachers, "people's servant loan" for government officers and journalist loans were also found by netizens and were posted on social media. Netizens believed that these abnormal loans reflect the weakness of society and should not be permitted.
