Chinese director Lu Yang will create an expanded universe based on his fantasy hit A Writer's Odyssey, which brought in more than 1 billion yuan ($153 million) at the box office during the 2021 Chinese New Year season, according to film studio Huace Pictures on Monday.

Director Lu and scriptwriter Shuang Xuetao said that they will "continue to tell the stories of A Writer's Odyssey, not only in the form of movies, but also including other possibilities."

Additionally, the film studio also released a slate of over 30 films, including The Interpreter, the latest work from directorial duo Rao Xiaozhi (A Cool Fish, 2018) and Guo Fan (The Wandering Earth, 2019). According to Guo, the film will focus on how a person can be inspired to have a sense of mission and make something impossible become a reality.
