As the five-day May Day holidays approach, the sales of "traffic-friendly" products such as "emergency mini toilet", a kind of instant pee bag, have surged as over 300 million people have been predicted to travel during the holidays.

"There are more orders for our emergency mini toilet before the May Day holiday," a customer service representative from a store selling traveling related equipment on Taobao said on Wednesday. More than 2,000 units of such instant pee bags from the store were sold in the past month, with each bag of 4 units costing 10.8 yuan ($1.67).

"Emergency mini toilet" is quite popular on Chinese e-commerce platforms including Taobao and Pinduoduo when searching for the keyword "May Day traffic," which is designed to fit all types of people and promoted as a safe and secure container with a 700 millimeters capacity to instantly solidify and store urine.

According to a forecast by CAPSE, a consultancy firm, over 300 million people will make trips during the five-day holiday, which is 2.8 times compared with the same period in 2020. Domestic tourism revenue is expected to exceed 200 billion yuan ($30.84 billion), CAPSE predicted.

Bookings for car rentals have increased 126 percent compared with the same period in 2019, data from the online travel agency Ctrip.com showed.
