A new art event was held in Kashi city, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to depict and praise the beauty of the region.

At the opening on Saturday, various issues concerning the development of art and art education in Kashi city were discussed in the hopes of promoting the unique cultural characteristics of the region.

The event also included a creative "sketching" activity, during which artists depicted major landmarks around the city such as local museums and parks through a diverse range of mediums such as paintings, videos and new media art.

The completed works will be exhibited on a major street in Kashi city known for its oil paintings until June 30.
