Shenzhen, where the headquarters of Huawei is located, is to ramp up construction of the SMIC 12-inch wafer fabrication facility as part of its 14th Five-Year Plan, according to a government plan released on Tuesday.

Shenzhen will strengthen the integrated circuit design capacity, optimize and upgrade chip manufacturing, and accelerate construction of the SMIC international 12-inch wafer foundry production line, according to the 14th Five-Year Plan and the long-range objectives through 2035 issued by Shenzhen Development and Reform Commission.

The city also plans to build a number of professional integrated circuit industrial parks and promote the development of 5G core technology, according to the plan.

By 2025, the total economic output of Shenzhen is expected to exceed 4 trillion yuan ($625) with the added value of strategic emerging industries exceeding 1.5 trillion yuan and the per capita disposable income of residents exceeding 90,000 yuan.

The city also aims to reinstate the main board of the local bourse - where new listings were suspended in 2000 - as an IPO destination and launch stock index futures for Shenzhen-listed stocks.
