China's canal town, WuZhen, has held a bunch of lavish festivities for the celebration of the traditional Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on Monday in the year 2021.

Before the traditional festival, shops and hotels in the Wuzhen scenic spot adorned their doors with Chinese mugwort, an herbaceous perennial plant with a creeping rhizome, as locals believe the smell of the plant keeps ghosts at bay and provides them with protection.

During the three-day holiday from Friday to Monday, many kids in Wuzhen wear hats and shoes embroidered with tiger patterns to signify the hope of a healthy childhood and passage into adulthood.

Wuzhen also hosted some competitions in making zongzi, a traditional Chinese food made from glutinous rice and stuffing wrapped in reed or bamboo leaves, which is a delicacy most associated with the festival. Customers could also try different zongzi flavors for free. In the north of China, most of the zongzi is stuffed with Chinese sweet jujube while in the south, it is stuffed with salty meat.

Some exhibitions about the festival were held at the site, where tourists could enjoy delicious food while learning more about the tradition behind the Dragon Boat Festival.
