A fugitive was apprehended by police in Leshan, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, after he received a COVID-19 vaccine shot, reported Toutiao News on Sunday.

The man was first spotted by a local policeman when he went to a vaccination site in Muchuan county for a jab. The policeman believed the man was the fugitive who had long been on the run, and he tried to confirm his identity by talking to him under the guise of giving him information about the vaccination.

After verifying his identity, the policeman secretly called his colleagues and asked them to apprehend him.

The man was then caught while he was under medical observation after he took the vaccine shot.

The man's dramatic experience amused some netizens. "Please remind the fugitive of the second dose he needs to take in three weeks," read one comment on Sina Weibo.

Other netizens saw the story as a good advertisement for the necessity to get vaccinated. "Even a fugitive took the initiative to get the shot. Isn't it encouraging?" said another Weibo user.
