Police in East China's Fujian Province found and saved a drowning woman on early Monday morning at a sea-shore in a scenic park, who said she could only remember her surname but nothing else about her identity.

After being examined in hospital, doctors said the woman might have suffered temporary amnesia after being in the sea for so long and swallowing too much water.

The woman said she vaguely remembered that her surname is Hu, but did not know "who she is," her address or any other information. She had nothing with her but her clothes, according to the police.

After about five hours, the woman gradually recovered her memory, recalling that she accidentally fell into the sea on Sunday afternoon when walking around a scenic park in Quanzhou.

Though Hu could not swim, she remained calm and let go of everything heavy she had with her so that she could float back to the surface. However, it was low tide at the time, and the waves carried her further away from the shore.

After one night, she was finally brought back to the shore in the early morning, more than 2 kilometers from the point where she had fallen in.
