A hardware enterprise in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province is under investigation for selling commemorative medals that use the official celebration logo for the centennial of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Guangzhou market supervision authorities said on Wednesday.

The company is suspected of violating the regulations on the use of official signs to manufacture, sell and use special marks for commercial activities without the permission of formal authorities, according to local intellectual property bureau.

At present, the case is under review. This is the first case in Guangzhou that involves the illegal use of the special logo of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC

The official logo was released by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee in March for activities to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC.

Authorities have mandated that celebration logos shall not be used for commercial advertising, trademark making or any other commercial purposes, and shall not be used for private celebrations and condolence activities.
