A new diverse cultural center in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province, is scheduled to open to the public in October. A merging of different artistic spaces, the new cultural center is special as it is particularly focused on promoting the arts.

The new Deji Cultural Complex fuses various individual spaces such as a book store, public area and galleries with an art-oriented twist. Promoting it as a "destination for a public aesthetic life," the center aims to develop its commercial value through the visitors' interactions with the cultural activities it provides.

"It is a strategy. It has become very common for art and business to be bound up with each other in a business model of reciprocity. Nowadays business unites demand for culture and art engagement to provide consumers not only products, but also experiences," Li Bo, a creative industry marketer, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

The art museum is the center's dominant "organ." The museum is a non-profit organization that is rich with artistic resources covering Chinese and Western modern art, and also ancient Chinese art, which is the museum's specialty.

There will be three diverse art exhibitions launched in October to explore the relationship between history, art and life.

In addition to a Chinese aesthetics-oriented exhibition displaying 50 rare ceramic works from the Song Dynasty (960-1279), there will also be a modern art show that engages digital technologies to show the cultural stories of the city of Nanjing. In the tech show, audiences will be able to take part in a digitalized reproduction of the city in the ancient times.

The most special exhibition among the three is an art installation that includes two individual designs that were created by renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara.

"The museum is dedicated to connecting the history of the East and the West and boosting international art communications in such areas as collections and research. Allowing different cultures to meet in one place through gathering people there to take part in art and educational activities is our goal," said Ai Lin, the director of the art museum, told media.
