A 13-year-old girl was brought by her parents from Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, to a desert island, 2,400 kilometers away, to conduct a so-called "mental exercise in extreme conditions" for her "rebelliousness."

After two days into the ordeal in the island in Weihai, East China's Shandong Province, the girl asked a local fisherman for help as she "couldn't endure the harsh conditions anymore" where they only had water and zip crackers and "could not even make a fire," she said.

The fisherman called the police, who later escorted the family back to the shore.

The girl's parents told the media that she has some "psychological problems" and dropped out of school in September 2020. "She did not even want to get out of the house to the outside," the girl's mother said.

A rescuer with the family said to Hongxing News on Saturday that the trip to the island is part of the "survival game experience" that was initiated by the girl's psychologist.
