The news that India's silver medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu would be able to enjoy free pizza for life began trending on Chinese social media on Wednesday.

Domino's Pizza posted on Twitter that the company would like to offer the weightlifter free pizza for life after she mentioned in an interview following her competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games that she was craving some pizza.

Many Chinese netizens gave the company thumbs-up and said how impressed they were with the pledge.

"This pledge is so pragmatic. She doesn't need to worry about food for the rest of her life. Maybe Chinese companies can also follow suit," one Chinese netizen joked on Sina Weibo.

"What if the pizza company goes bankrupt," another netizen joked.

"Domino's in India is like Pizza Hut in China. So welcome it to China and it might offer free pizza to us too," wrote one netizen.

Other Chinese netizens congratulated Mirabai Chanu.

"Congratulations to the Indian athlete, you are the pride of Indian women," one netizen commented on Sina Weibo.
