A surveillance video recently went viral online when a bank manager in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang Province, was calmly playing on his phone while a man who attempted to rob the bank was sitting right next to him with a knife. 

The "incident" happened on August 9 when the manager, surnamed Xu, was on his night shift, according to a report by the Papers on Friday. 

The video shows the robber with no other protection gear but only a mask on his face playing with a knife in his hand. The bank manager, sitting on the other side of the desk, was browsing on his mobile phone and chatting with him.

Xu told the media that the man first came to the bank to consult on a loan due to some financial problems. But when he came the second time, he brought with him a kitchen knife asking for money.

Xu noticed that the knife looked pretty new and was still packed in a cardboard and speculated that the man didn't really want to "rob" the bank, but just needed some help.  

Xu, with a legal background, tried to talk to him calmly to figure out his real problems and needs. During their talk, Xu warned the man of the serious consequences that comes with robbing a bank.  

Finally, the man asked the manager to call the police to avoid things from getting out of hand.
