HK chief executive to visit mainland cities, attend flag handover ceremony at the National Games

Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Carrie Lam said she will visit Chengdu in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, and Xi'an in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, from September 22 to 28 to attend the flag handover ceremony of the National Games and events promoting regional development.

Lam, who will lead a delegation of the Hong Kong SAR Government, will depart for Chengdu via Shenzhen on Wednesday to attend the High-Level Meeting of the Second Plenary of the Hong Kong-Sichuan Co-operation Conference. She will also be on the 2021 Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Co-operation Chief Executive Joint Conference on September 24, according to an announcement published on regional government's website.

During her stay in Chengdu, she will hold meetings with leaders of various provinces. The Chief Secretary for Administration, John Lee, and the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, will join the visit, according to the announcement. 

Lam will depart on Friday for Chongqing where she will meet with the leaders of the city and conduct visits. 

On Sunday, she will depart for Xi'an to attend the closing ceremony of the 14th National Games in the evening. She will also be present the next day during flag handover ceremony of the National Games with the leaders of Guangdong Province and the Macao SAR. The Secretary for Home Affairs, Caspar Tsui, will also join the Xi'an visit. 

The three places will jointly hold the 15th National Games in 2025.

Lam will return to Hong Kong via Shenzhen on September 28. During her visit, the Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, will be the Acting Chief Executive. The Executive Council will be on recess on September 28.
