Former senior Jiangsu official expelled from CPC, public office

Wang Like, former member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Jiangsu Provincial Committee, former secretary of politics and law committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, has been expelled from the Party and removed from his post for serious violations of CPC discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft body said on Wednesday. 

The anti-graft body had recently conducted an investigation into Wang, who had never lived up to his ideals and had never been faithful to the Party, and behaved with no sense of political discipline and rules, according to the notice posted on the official website of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission on Wednesday. 

Wang had attempted to build cliques within the Party, and sought speculations politically for personal promotion, said the announcement.

The investigation found Wang abused his position of power to help others in the appointment of officials, business operations and granting of loans, and accepted large amounts of money and gifts in exchange for favors, and protected the bad in society. He was also accused of infringing on housing, living an extravagant lifestyle and trading power for sex.

During the investigation, he behaved untruthfully, falsified and forged personal files. Trading official positions had seriously damaged the political ecosystem of the political and legal system, especially the public security system, said the announcement.

Wang ignored the Party's eight-point frugality code and showed no sign of restraint after the 18th CPC National Congress.

Wang severely violated the Party's disciplines on politics, organization, clean governance, committing duty crimes, and he was also suspected of taking bribes, the announcement said. His illegal gains should be confiscated, and his suspected crimes will be transferred to the procuratorate for further investigation and prosecution.

Wang was born in 1964 in East China's Shandong Province, according to public information. He turned himself in in October 2020.
