Restaurant in flood-hit Shanxi makes 1,000 ‘Chinese hamburgers’ to support front-line relief workers

 Faced with the disasters caused by the continuous heavy rainfall in North China's Shanxi Province, a restaurant in Yuncheng suspended business on Sunday and rushed overnight to make and deliver 1,000 pieces of hamburger-like roujiamo to flood relief workers. The gesture , which has sparked a heated discussion among Chinese netizens.

In a video widely circulated on Sina Weibo, the owner of the restaurant surnamed Wang said they took a total of 10 hours to prepare the food, and then drove nearly 70 kilometers to Jishan County, one of the area's most severely affected places by the rainstorm, to console the front-line flood relief workers.

"As a young person living in the contemporary times, we have this responsibility to do so," Wang said. 

As of 10 am Tuesday, 15 were killed and 3 were still missing after downpour and floods battered Shanxi Province, 1.75 million people were have been affected and 120,100 displaced. 19,500 houses have collapsed and the direct economic loss is has reached $770 million.
