An orchestral performance dedicated to showing the cultural characteristics and positive ambience of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area kicked off on Wednesday in Beijing.

Held at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, The Music of the Greater Bay concert performed by the Zhuhai Folk Orchestra showed the distinctive musical characteristics of the Greater Bay Area's Lingnan culture, offering audiences songs adapted from the orchestral folk music of South China's Guangdong Province.

Music such as Spring Rain and Red Lychee was performed to exhibit the historical and cultural diversity of the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province.

"As a local resident, I do think our local culture is a comprehensive merging of both traditional Chinese cultural virtues and Western influences, which can be seen in our city such as its architecture and residents from international backgrounds. I do think the city is different from other cities such as Guangzhou and Beijing," Zeng Shunming, a Zhuhai resident, told the Global Times.

The concert is considered the Zhuhai Folk Orchestra's most representative works. Debuted in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong in September 2020, it was highly praised by audiences.

The Wednesday show is the first in a series of cultural events dedicated to demonstrating the cultural ambience of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Other music pieces such as the Tear of Hero, written by renowned Chinese music composer He Zhanhao to celebrate 2021's 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China, will be performed at a concert that will be held at the Peking University in Beijing on Sunday.

Another musical performance Bougainvillea and Lotus Flowers, which includes 14 individual music pieces, will be held on October 29 at Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts.

These cultural events celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the return of the Macao Special Administrative Region to the motherland.
