Revealing pole dances at a non-official industrial conference in East China's Jiangxi Province have triggered criticism for organizing such a controversial performance at a formal meeting.

In the video circulating online, multiple dancers in skimpy and see-through clothes performed pole dancing at the conference on Saturday held by a social organization called "Elite Grouping of Jiangxi Municipal Pipeline Industry."

The video triggered widespread criticism. Some people questioned whether it is appropriate for a social organization to include such "nasty" performances in its activities.

Jimu news reported that one participant disagreed, saying that the pole dances are not obscene at all and probably relevant with the theme of pipes.

Two participants said there were over 80 people attending the meeting, Jimu news reported. Most of them are manufacturers or sellers in the local pipeline industry and paid to participate in the meeting.

There are more than 35 million views and comments on the hashtag "revealing pole dances at an industrial conference" on Sina Weibo, China's Twitter-like social media platform as of press time.

One netizen commented that it depends on who organized the conference. It would be absolutely inappropriate if the organizers were official departments, but it would be fine if were the pipeline industry's manufacturers or sellers.

Despite that pole dancing has become more accepted and dancers are frequently getting invited to perform at events to attract attendance, revealing pole dances on more formal occasions remain controversial.
