Editor's Note:

The Fourth China International Import Expo (CIIE) will be held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10 as scheduled. Despite the difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, global traders plan to gather at the annual event online and offline to showcase their products and services in fields such as healthcare, artificial intelligence (AI) and carbon neutrality, looking to boost their performance in the Chinese market.

The Global Times (GT) interviewed 15 foreign diplomats in Beijing and Shanghai about their engagement and expectations for this year's CIIE. Here is:

GT: How does Mexico plan to engage in the CIIE despite facing challenges from COVID-19?

Jesús Seade Kuri: Despite the challenges that all countries face because of COVID-19, Mexico has continued to be present in every edition of the CIIE, bringing a message of public and private sector cooperation, in support of Chinese and all companies back in Mexico, and Mexican entrepreneurs established in China.

We know well the potential that quality products have in this great market. Mexico is keen to approach retailers and consumers in China at this expo.

I am very happy to announce that we have created solid partnerships with important Chinese companies such as Greenland Group and financial institutions such as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) to showcase Mexican products also in their exhibition spaces.

GT: What are your expectations for the upcoming CIIE?

Jesús Seade Kuri: Our expectations are always positive. The huge interest in our Mexican food and culture, that has developed in the last 20 or 30 years in Europe and in North America, is definitely expanding and taking hold in China, just as the increasing demand for Mexican imports.

We want to continue showing the high variety and quality of our products to Chinese consumers in this edition of the CIIE. Visitors will find Mexican coffee, chocolate, wonderful sauces, dressings, spices, condiments, chia seeds, tequila, beer, wine, juice and even some Mexican jewelry.

I look forward to bringing more Mexican products in the future, as I'm convinced that having more Mexican presence in China is key for our mutual trade, and key to enhancing our people-to-people knowledge, contacts and friendship.
