China’s Office of Production Security under the State Council recently launched a new round of safety checks targeting previous gas explosion incidents in urban areas, which identified issues including facilities aging and companies’ lacking of safety training and managements, according to an announcement published on the website of Ministry of Emergency Management on Saturday.

The announcement noted that China Gas Holdings, the company that has the exploration rights for natural gas in China, was involved in a severe gas explosion accident occurred in Shiyan city, Central China’s Hubei Province on June 13, and other two accidents which happened in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province and North China’s Hebei Province.

The office had analyzed multiple problems including corrosion of gas pipelines, loosening connection between pipelines. Gas companies’ flawed system of safety checks and training have also contributed to growing risks.

The office vowed to conduct multiple security checks in the coming months in gas usage such as enhancing surveillance and ordering gas-using restaurants to equip flammable gas detectors. Companies that ignore safety check and rectification will be placed on a black list.
