A tightrope walking competition at an altitude of 1,092 meters has been held in Wulingyuan scenic spot in Zhangjiajie, a famous tourist city in Central China's Hunan Province, on Monday.

Ten competitors from across the country participated in the event, displaying their balancing skills by walking barefoot on a 120-meter-long, 2.5-centimeter-wide and 3-centimeter-thick strip, with a formidable abyss underneath.

Apart from the fear of height, the competitors have to overcome the influences of cold air, high wind and strong sunlight at such a high altitude, China News reported.

Eventually, a competitor named Hu Ji'en from Central China's Henan Province claimed champion by finishing the walk in merely 5 minutes and 14 seconds.

According to Hu, the tightrope walking competition tests not only the above-mentioned factors, but also the competitors' adaptability to strips made of different materials.

Netizens commented that it was so exciting that they had sweaty palms by merely watching the race.
