In the war-torn Iraqi city of Mosul, local residents have gradually returned to normal life with the hope for a better future, after a large part of the city was reconstructed.

In 2014, the Islamic State (IS) proclaimed the establishment of a caliphate in the Al-Nuri Mosque, a landmark in Mosul for centuries. After three years of deadly fighting, Iraq officially declared the liberation of Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq, from the IS in later 2017.
