China-assisted Cambodian national stadium was officially launched on Saturday, and will act as the main stadium for The 2023 Southeast Asian Games, Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, diplomatic envoys from more than 20 countries in Cambodia and around 20,000 local Cambodian residents attended the stadium's opening ceremony on Saturday.

Hun Sen said during the ceremony that the stadium was a major infrastructure project aided and granted by China, which will enable Cambodia to host the Southeast Asian Games in 2023.

The stadium, built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation, is located in the suburban area of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. The project started construction in April 2017 and was transferred to Cambodian government in September 2021. The stadium covers an area of 16 hectares and has a maximum capacity for 60,000 people.
