Chinese carmaker SERES said that production of the SERES SF5, the electric vehicle it has launched together with telecom giant Huawei, remains normal at present, after media reports saying the car was unavailable for purchase, which many equated to a "production suspension" after only eight months on the market.

SERES on Wednesday said that due to the debut of AITO M5, the latest car it launched with Huawei on December 23, the company has temporarily closed the reservation channel for the SERES SF5.

SERES also mentioned that the production of the SF5 remains normal at present.

A source close to the matter told the Global Times on Wednesday that the production for the SERES SF5 is normal now.

According to a report published by The Securities Times on Tuesday, some consumers who ordered the SERES SF5 had not received delivery of their cars within contracted time. The report said that SERES' offline stores had changed their logo to Huawei's AITO branding.

An insider close to Huawei said in the report that the production and sale of the SERES SF5 had not stopped, and that it was only the reservation channel which had been temporarily closed. The insider suggested that it is because inventory had been sold out before the 2022 Chinese New Year with the manufacturer unable to replenish supply in time.

The Global Times learned on Wednesday that the reservation channel can still be accessed. Consumers can choose various configurations via the SERES' official website and place an order.

According to the sale statistic from vehicle information site Chezhu Zhijia, the monthly sale volume of SERES SF5 reached 1,446 units in November 2021. The aggregate sales volume of the car reached 9,131 since July 2020.
