China and German relations remain resilient and stable as it is reflected in the close collaboration on both sides, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, said in a video meeting with his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, on Thursday.

Referring to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Germany, Wang said that in the past 50 years bilateral trade has increased by more than 800 times.

"Last year, bilateral trade overcame the impact of the pandemic and reached a record high, which fully demonstrated the complementarities of the two economies and the resilience of economic and trade relations of both sides," Wang said.

While reviewing the fruitful economic and trade ties, Wang expressed his expectations for both sides to jointly reach new highlights on future cooperation in areas including information technologies, telecommunications, fashion, agriculture, science and technology, and green development.

While welcoming German companies to expand investment in China, the foreign minister hopes that Germany will uphold the principle of fairness and justice, eliminate external interference, and provide a good business environment for Chinese companies to invest in the country.

The two sides agreed to hold the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and make preparations for the seventh round of China-Germany inter-government consultation.

On the basis of mutual respect, both sides agree to conduct equal dialogue on human rights, democracy and other issues, and avoid engaging in "microphone diplomacy."
