The world's first LNG dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC) 'Yuan Rui Yang', manufactured by China State Shipping Corporation (CSSC), has been delivered in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province on Monday, marking a milestone in China taking a lead in applying green, environmentally friendly and energy-saving technologies within the industry.

Against the background of a global energy transition, the successful delivery will promote the application of LNG as the main fuel on VLCCs, which will help the energy conservation and emission reduction of large ships and the shipping industry to promote the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, observers said.

'Yuan Rui Yang' will be operated by COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation Company and has a length of 333 meters, molded breadth of 60 meters, and molded depth of 30.5 meters.

Using LNG as its main fuel, it is equipped with the dual-fuel engine, power generators and boiler. In gas mode, the ship's endurance can reach 12,000 nautical miles, with a combined endurance for fuel and gas of 24,000 nautical miles.

During the construction process, CSSC has achieved independent research on many engineering application challenges including cutting, welding, assembly and inspection of corrosion-resistant steel, forming a complete mass production and engineering application technology system of marine corrosion-resistant steel, and enhancing the international competitiveness of high-end marine steel.
