China will further promote the expansion of rare-earth permanent magnet material application, in a bid to enhance the development of rare-earth permanent magnet materials and the high-end application industry, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said on Wednesday.

The ministry made the remarks during a meeting on upstream and downstream cooperation mechanism addressing rare-earth permanent magnet materials for new energy vehicle (NEV) drive motors, updating parties on the progress of rare-earth permanent magnet materials in new fields as well as the standardization of the materials and motors.

The meeting also discussed the operation of upstream and downstream industries of NEVs and the development of domestic and international technologies.

It also discussed the key work plan for 2022.

A total of 21 associations and companies including China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Association of China Rare Earth Industry as well as technology suppliers in electric drive systems like Jing-Jin Electric participated in the meeting.

China's rare-earth exports in the first quarter of 2022 rose 6.5 percent year-on-year to 12,680 tons, slowing down from the 10.9-percent growth recorded in the first two months of the year, customs data showed on Wednesday.
