Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan is proud of the political and diplomatic support it had extended to the freedom movements of African nations in the past.

Addressing a virtual event here commemorating Africa Day, Zardari reiterated Pakistan's resolve to enhance its engagement with the African continent, particularly in the economic and trade domains, the Pakistani foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday night.

The foreign minister stressed that the revitalization of diplomatic outreach to the African continent was an important pillar of Pakistan's "Engage Africa" initiative.

Pakistan extends its heartiest felicitations to the people of Africa on the occasion of Africa Day, marking the 59th anniversary of the African Union, the statement said.

"This Day is a celebration of the African nations' heroic struggle against colonialism, racism, and apartheid, as well as the richness of their civilization and the gigantic strides they have made since achieving emancipation from colonial rule," it added.

"As the world observes Africa Day 2022, Pakistan reaffirms its full solidarity and support for the aspirations and endeavors of the African nations for peace, progress and prosperity."
