Maerkang in Sichuan hit by earthquakes; no casualties reported

Maerkang city of the Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province was hit by at least 10 earthquakes above 3-magnitude early Friday morning, and China’s State Council has sent a working team to assist local rescue work. 

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit Maerkang at 00:03 am, and nearly two hours later, another 6.0-magnitude one occurred. Sichuan Province soon started emergency response and has organized 1,280 people for rescue work. No casualty has been reported as of press time. 

The emergency response department of the State Council has also started national level emergency response and sent a working team to assist with rescue work.
