The China supported Adly Mansour Station and the 10th of Ramadan Light Rail Transit (LRT) program were officially put into operation on Saturday. The program was the first electrified LRT in both Egypt and Africa, located at the axis of Egyptian eastern economic corridor, which will boost the regional economy and accelerate the industrialization of Egypt.

Built by a joint group which included China Railway Group and AVIC International Holding Corporation, the LRT connected three major Egyptian cities of Cairo, 10th of Ramadan and The New Administrative Capital providing efficient commuting service for 5 million local people, according to the report on the official website of Embassy of China in Egypt published on Monday.

Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir said the current phase of the LRT contains 22 trains and has daily transport capacity for 360,000 passengers, Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday.

China's ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi attended the opening ceremony held on Saturday at the Adly Mansour Station, the largest transfer train station in Middle-East.

"The 10th of Ramadan LRT was a remarkable cooperation program between China and Egypt under the Belt and Road Initiative, generating important meaning for bilateral relationship," said Liao. He also noted that Chinese enterprises will keep working on projects related to local people's livelihoods.
