The first hydropower plant with a generating capacity of one million kWh in Southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, the Suwalong Hydropower Station, entered operations on Tuesday, providing green power to the region and neighboring Sichuan Province, Power Construction Corporation of China (Power China), the designer of the plant, said.

After a 72-hour trial operation, the No. 4 generator of Suwalong Hydropower Station entered operation. The Suwalong Hydropower Station is the first such project located at the upstream of the Jinsha River bordering Xizang and Sichuan.

The overall capacity of the power plant has reached 1.2 million kilowatt-hours with annual maximum power generation volume at approximately 5.5 billion kilowatt-hours. All of the four generators there will be put into operation at the end of 2022, which can save 1.8 million tons of coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4.3 million tons.
