The 2022 annual press conference for animation published by Chinese video platform Tencent Video was held on Monday, issuing a list of 100 to-be-released animation works covering seven themes including wuxia (martial arts) and science fiction.

2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chinese animation. Tencent Video held the annual conference to publish new animation works, in order to maintain the vitality of Chinese animation industry and meet the diverse needs of audiences.

Some new animations address the power of youth and cover different sides of Chinese young people's life such as sports and campus. Left Hand Lay-up is one of the representatives of this theme.

A variety of original novels with large followings have been adapted as animation works, and were announced at the press conference. The new animation work adapted from the bestselling fantasy novel series Ghost Blows Out the Light by Zhang Muye about a team of grave robbers seeking hidden treasure will be released, Tencent Video announced.

With the continuous support to original animation provided by Tencent Video, audiences will see more dynamic and novel content, building on industry momentum, but also creating more possibilities for the national animation market.

"People's demand for animation is increasing. The success of previous works, especially the 2019 hit film Ne Zha, has made investors recognize the potential of animation. And Chinese studios are making progress when it comes to technical know-how and creative ideas," Shi Chuan, vice chairman of the Shanghai Film Association, told the Global Times.

"There are a lot of original stories that can be explored and adapted from our millennia-old traditional culture. This is an opportunity," She Yinbin, in charge of children's content on streaming platform Tencent Video, said.
