China’s car exports grow 60% y-o-y from Jan to Sep: CPCA

The export of China's passenger cars reached 250,000 units in September with the total number of exported cars topping 1.59 million units in the first nine months, up 85 percent and 60 percent respectively, reaffirming the trend that China has achieved a major comprehensive breakthrough with domestic brands entering the international market. 

According to the data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on Tuesday, China's domestic brands delivered 204,000 units overseas, a year-on-year growth of 88 percent, reflecting an effective implementation of the strategy that China being a production hub for exporting international brands.  

In 2022, China' auto exports have been showing explosive growth resulted from the surge in exports of new-energy vehicles (NEVs), with the number and average price of exports seeing strong growth, said CPCA.

Data showed that the export of new-energy passenger vehicles reached 44,000 units in September, accounting 18.4 percent of the month's total car exports. Thanks to the supportive policies from the government, an increasing number of China's domestic brands have been expanding businesses abroad, while gaining increased recognition overseas following an improved service network with a bright market potential ahead. 

In September, a total of 1.92 million passenger cars were sold domestically, up 21.5 percent year on year. Some 14.87 million cars were retailed from January to September, a year-on-year increase of 2.4 percent, a net increase of 355,000 units. 

A total of 708,000 new-energy vehicles were sold domestically in September, a year-on-year increase of 93.9 percent. The cumulative sales from January to September exceeded 4.56 million, up 1.1 times year-on-year, data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed on Tuesday. 

Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the CPCA, recently said that Tesla's factory in Shanghai delivered more than 83,000 vehicles in September, setting a new record for monthly deliveries, according to a report sent to the Global Times by Tesla.
