Chinese enterprises who contributed to the construction of World Cup venues in Qatar said on Thursday that high-quality China-made products represented in the event showcase increasing global recognition.

Some 1,200 steel fire doors have been used in areas like dining areas and lounges of Qatar Stadium 974, Xiang Bo, the marketing manager of Mexin, a leading door manufacturer based in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, told the Global Times on Thursday.

Qatar Stadium 974 is the first fully demountable stadium in the history of the FIFA World Cup. It was constructed using 974 containers, with a total space of 450,000 square meters and a capacity of 40,000, guancha.cn reported.

The containers were produced by China International Marine Containers (CIMC), while Mexin was in charge of the supply of doors for the containers.

Xiang noted that the production of the nearly 1,200 doors took place within nine months, and they were delivered to CIMC in 10 batches, adding that the doors were made with high-quality and environmentally friendly materials.

Meanwhile, Mexin also delivered 48,000 sets of doors to Qatar for constructing the accommodation village for service personnel, which also serves as a hotel now, said Xiang.

The Fan Village Cabins Free Zone, another signature project and also one of the largest fan villages built for the World Cup, is composed of 6,000 container-style cabins offered by Chinese enterprises, which can host up to 12,000 guests simultaneously. More than 10,000 sets of container houses were manufactured in China, mainly in South China’s Guangdong Province and East China’s Zhejiang Province, China Media Group reported.

Zhejiang Putian Integrated Housing Co (PTH), headquartered in Shaoxing, contributed 5,200 sets of the container houses within 90 days, Zhang Zhuotian, the operation director of PTH, told the Global Times on Thursday.

Zhang noted that the production is highly automated, adding that the container products have their own patents and better insulation and safety performance. Two skilled workers can complete construction of a container in four hours.

Alibaba.com told the Global Times that the order was placed through Alibaba’s international trade site, with the first order of 3,000 units being placed after the sample was delivered to Qatar.

China has proved its resilience in resisting risks including the COVID-19 pandemic. Domestic enterprises such as Mexin and PTH have implemented targeted and innovative measures to ensure smooth and effective delivery of the products despite the challenges from the epidemic.

Xiang noted that Mexin has upgraded its innovative production lines to reduce the number of workers from 150 to around 20, and some production lines have already achieved unmanned operation.

Zhang said that the company has ensured two to three suppliers for every part to guarantee production during the epidemic, noting that the company also rented an additional warehouse for packing and delivery which greatly improved the efficiency of delivery and helped customers to reduce shipping costs.

Industry insiders noted that more Chinese enterprises participated in various construction projects for this World Cup, which proves China’s indispensable role in the global industrial chain.

Xiang noted that the variety of products made for Qatar shows that Chinese enterprises can shine on the global stage, showing that China is moving steadily from "made in China" to "created in China."

Zhang said that the diverse representation of domestic firms shows that Chinese manufacturing is increasingly recognized by the world, and the quality of Chinese manufacturing is more on par with global standards.
