The 58 Qifu Qingbaijiang cross-border e-commerce industrial park located in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, was officially opened for operation on December 23, with an aim to foster cluster growth and boost the province's cross-border e-commerce industry.

With a planned area of 30,000 square meters, the industrial park will be operated based on the local manufacturing industry in Chengdu and rely on the advantages of Chengdu Qingbaijiang Dry Port, providing one-stop services for the whole chain of cross-border e-commerce for enterprises in the park, according to a statement sent to the Global Times by the industrial park.

The industrial park currently has gathered over 100 enterprises. With the Qingbaijiang district's advantages in international access starting to take effect since the beginning of the year, its foreign trade has achieved a rosy growth, exceeding 30 billion yuan ($4.3 billion), with a year-on-year growth rate of 13 percent.

New business forms and models such as cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouse are effectively forming new driving forces for economic growth, the industrial park said.

Since 2016 when Chengdu was approved to set up a pilot zone for cross-border e-commerce, the inland city started to explore diversified markets, enhance trading chains, establish an import and export commodity distribution center under the Belt and Road Initiative framework and to cultivate an international trading hub.

The enterprises in the pilot zone have built and used 66 overseas warehouses in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania, with a total area of over 230,000 square meters and a total investment of 84.77 million yuan.

By cooperating with overseas enterprises and industry associations, Chengdu cross-border e-commerce overseas liaison stations have been established in 14 overseas cities such as Amsterdam and Tokyo.

The pilot zone has been gradually building a public service system with complete functions, linking and gathering various service resources such as marketing service, transaction service and delivery service, to effectively promote the healthy and sustainable development of the city's cross-border e-commerce industry.

According to data from the local government, a total of 2,620 cross-border e-commerce enterprises had registered in the city as of the end of November. From January to November, the cross-border e-commerce transaction scale of the city reached 87.66 billion yuan, up 40.1 percent year-on-year.

Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cross-border e-commerce industry has accelerated innovation in Chengdu and has become a surging driving force to promote the transformation and the upgrade of the city's foreign trade and economic growth.
