The Thai Embassy in China held the opening ceremony of the 2023 Thai Durian Festival in Beijing on Sunday to promote Thai durian to Chinese consumers. The carnival will last until June 4.

The Minister Counselor of the Agricultural Department of the Thai Embassy in China Pathumwadee Imtour said that the aroma and taste of durian is unique and if you taste it for the first time, you will easily like it. Thai durian is not only of high quality, but also focuses on product quality during transportation and sales, and each durian has a traceable code, so consumers can buy and eat with confidence.

In 2003, Thailand became the first country to receive the approval from the Chinese General Administration of Customs to export durian directly to China. China is the largest export market for Thai durian. Thai statistics show that 96 percent of Thai durian were exported to China in 2022, with a volume of 700,000 tons and an export value of $3.09 billion. In the first two months of this year, sales of Thai durian in the Chinese market reached 35,000 tons, a 2.4-fold year-on-year increase.
