Russia: Russian Language Day celebrated at Russian Cultural Center in Beijing

The Russian Cultural Center in Beijing hosted the "Charming Russian Language-Theatrical Evening" on Tuesday to celebrate the Russian Language Day. Many Russian-speaking people in China gave a wonderful performance of Russian classical art and Russian poetry.

Kasianova Tamara, director of the Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing, said that the Russian language is of special importance in China as an international language necessary for the training of highly qualified professionals. She also emphasized the important role of the Russian language in enhancing relations between the two countries.

Students of the Affiliated High School of Beijing Foreign Studies University and the High School affiliated to Beijing Institute of Technology, as well as children from the Russian language courses at the Russian Cultural Center in Beijing, expressed their love for the Russian language. The Russian Cultural Center awarded certificates to the performers 

On June 6, 2011, the then president of Russia Dmitri Medvedev signed a decree on the annual celebration of Russian Language Day in Russia on June 6. The Russian Language Day was established to preserve, support and further develop the Russian language, which is a national treasure of the Russian people, universal international language and inseparable part of the cultural and spiritual heritage of world civilization. The Russian Language Day is celebrated on June 6 to mark the birth anniversary of Alexander Pushkin, the founder of modern Russian literature.
