China will continue to pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening-up and helping promote an open global economy to ensure more people enjoy the fruits of modernization in a fairer way, Hao Mingjin, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, said on Wednesday.

Hao made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 14th China-Northeast Asia Expo (CNEA Expo), which kicked off in Changchun, Northeast China's Jilin Province on Wednesday, according to a statement on the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) website.

Northeast Asia is one of the most vibrant economic regions in the world, while the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has injected new momentum, expanding and deepening regional cooperation, Hao said, noting that China is willing to work with countries in the region to boost Northeast Asia regional cooperation to a higher level.

The region has world-leading scientific and technology research capabilities, and each country has its own advantages in economic development and these economic elements are complementary. As favorable conditions continue to accumulate, there are new opportunities for high-quality economic development in the region, Hao added.

This expo covers an area of some 70,000 square meters, attracting the participation of more than 1,000 domestic and foreign companies, a Jilin provincial government said at a press briefing on Monday.

Various new products in fields such as new energy, biotechnology and satellites - in addition to distinctive tourism in cold weather regions - will be on show at the event. Prominent companies like FAW Group, GAC New Energy and Huawei will showcase their latest achievements, according to local officials.

The CNEA Expo is the world's only national-level comprehensive exposition involving the participation of all six Northeast Asian countries - China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Russia and Mongolia - and serving as a platform for countries in the region to build consensus and boost commerce and trade.

It provides a unique platform for businesses to present cutting-edge technologies and products. It aims to strengthen regional cooperation and explore new opportunities for economic growth in Northeast Asia.

In 2022, total trade between China and the five Northeast Asian nations amounted to $923.2 billion, up 3.8 percent year-on-year, according to MOFCOM data.
