China will hold the first Global Sustainable Transport Forum in Beijing from Monday to Tuesday to be attended by some 50 senior officials and representatives of international organizations, in a bid to promote global cooperation in the transport sector and achieve sustainable development, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) said on Thursday.

The forum, which will be themed "Sustainable Transport: Working Together to Promote Global Development," is expected to achieve major outcomes in four areas, including the release of a Beijing initiative to promote sustainable transport development and the establishment of an innovative alliance of global transport bodies, Li Yang, vice minister of transport, told a press conference in Beijing.

According to Li, the forum will cover five major topics, including connectivity in the digital era, inclusive transport development with all countries and regions, innovation-driven development, green development and global governance.

And, a report on China's sustainable development in the transport sector will be released, which will offer a comprehensive overview of China's achievements and experiences in pursuing sustainable development, which will serve as a valuable reference for global partners.

In addition, a number of cooperation documents are expected to be signed during the forum between the MOT, the UN and other countries covering cooperation in road transportation, ocean transport and transport technology.

The innovative alliance of global sustainable transport bodies "will provide more knowledge and solutions on sustainable development to everyone, and promote the sustainable development of the transport sector," Li said.

Outside the forum, the MOT will host the 15th International Exhibition on Transport Technology and Equipment, under the theme of Promoting Innovation to Enable Global Transport Connectivity from Monday to Wednesday in Beijing. The exhibition will be attended by 88 enterprises and organizations from 14 countries.
