As of Thursday, the number of private businesses in South China's Guangdong Province surpassed 10 million, an increase of 12.46 percent year-on-year, creating over 30 million jobs, data from the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation (GAMR) showed. It also shows the improving operational vitality of businesses in the region.
Most companies operate in four sectors: wholesale and retailing, hotels and restaurants, manufacturing, and community services. The main sector is wholesale and retailing, accounting for nearly 58 percent of the businesses.
In 2023, the number of newly registered individual business owners in Guangdong surged by 32.22 percent on a yearly basis to 1.49 million, the highest number in the last five years.
Foshan, Shenzhen and Zhanjiang ranked as the top three cities in terms of the growth in number of local businesses.
In 2023, Guangdong's local government released a batch of measures to support individual business owners and promote the development of private business.
The measures included facilitating market access and reducing costs, helping to improve the environment for private businesses.
