The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has always supported aviation logistics companies from various countries, including UPS, to invest and operate in China, the agency's deputy head Ma Bing said when meeting with Wilfredo Ramos, President of UPS Asia Pacific on Thursday.

Ma said that China's air cargo transport sector has significant potential, and the CAAC continues to optimize time slots to further improve operating efficiency.

Ma hopes the UPS to enhance communications with different parties in China and continue to improve the management level of cargo transport, in a bid to further contribute to the high-quality development of logistics sector between the US and Asia Pacific.

Ramos said the company attaches great importance to the Chinese market as China's aviation logistics industry has vast market prospects, and the company aims to further connect China and the world with logistics.

Information shared on the UPS official website showed that UPS entered China in 1988, and currently it has more than 5,800 employees in the country. It serves airports of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport and Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport.

Data from CAAC in October, 2023 showed that Chinese cargo market has maintained a stable development and that overall cargo capacity has exceeded the level of pre-epidemic.

The industry completed a total of 1.94 million tons of cargo transportation, a year-on-year increase of 24.4 percent and an increase of 0.2 percent compared with the same period in 2019.

For the new flying season starting from October 29 of 2023 to March 30 of 2024, a total of 52 international airlines have received approval for their planned applications for 3,676 weekly cargo flights, connecting China to 44 overseas countries and regions.

FedEx, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Guangdong Airport Authority to form an in-depth strategic collaboration. In addition, a groundbreaking ceremony for the FedEx South China Operations Center was held on the same day.

Slated to begin operating in 2027, the facility will be able to sort up to 25,000 packages and documents per hour, three times the sorting efficiency of the company's current Guangzhou Gateway.

In October 2023, FedEx launched a new flight service between Vietnam and Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, further enhancing the connection between Vietnam, China, and other markets in Asia and Europe.
