The Beijing section of the Beijing-Xiong’an expressway, between Beijing’s 5th Ring Road and 6th Ring Road, opened to traffic on Thursday morning, which means the whole line of the Beijing-Xiong’an expressway has now become fully operational, shortening travel time between the capital and Xiong’an New Area to one hour, according to China Media Group.
As a major transport program under the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Beijing-Xiong’an expressway has a total length of 102 kilometers comprising a 27-kilometer Beijing-section and a 75-kilometer Hebei-section.
The Beijing-Xiong’an expressway is the most convenient direct highway connecting Beijing and Xiong’an New Area, which will strengthen the connectivity between southern Beijing and surrounding areas, and form a cross-region highway network with the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao expressway and the Daqing-Guangzhou highway, said the report.
The smart Beijing-Xiong’an expressway is equipped with 5G network and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, thus providing drivers with timely traffic and weather information and live news.
After the completion of the expressway, the connectivity among central Beijing, the Beijing Daxing International Airport, and Xiong’an New Area will be further upgraded. The expressway will support the development of the Xiong’an New Area, regional coordination, and help relieve Beijing of functions non-essential to its role as the national capital, said the report.
