Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong was invited to attend the 40th Anniversary of Brunei's National Day Reception hosted by the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Beijing and met with Ambassador Pehin Dato Rahmani of Brunei on March 1.

February 24 marked Brunei Darussalam's 40th National Day. China and Brunei established diplomatic relations on September 30, 1991, and bilateral ties have developed smoothly, with friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields gradually unfolding. In 2018, relations between the two countries were upgraded to that of a strategic cooperative partnership.

At the reception, Sun congratulated Brunei on the 40th anniversary of its National Day, saying that the friendship between China and Brunei has a long history.

"Chinese President Xi Jinping's meeting with Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in San Francisco last November provided important strategic guidance for the next step in the development of relations between the two countries. China is willing to make joint efforts with Brunei to promote new development in the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries," said Sun.

Ambassador Rahmani said Brunei attaches great importance to the development of relations with China and is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus of the heads of the two countries, and to promote the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries to achieve greater results.
