The European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) China, a European network of organizations engaging in cultural relations in China, has decided to hold a joint campaign on the issue of disability this year, according to a press conference about the campaign in Beijing on Tuesday.

Under the title "Ability over Disability," or more formally known as "There is ability in disability," this year's EUNIC campaign aims to use culture as a platform to raise awareness about disability issues, showcasing the remarkable determination and resilience of individuals with disabilities in managing every-day life tasks, while also promoting exchanges between Europe and China on this important topic. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to further contribute to the improvement of the quality of life for people with disabilities and their relatives in our society and worldwide.

As part of this initiative, each EUNIC member will be invited to incorporate activities related to disability issues into their 2024 action plan.

Movie and documentary screenings, live performances, exhibitions and other events associated to disability will be held in China in collaboration with local Chinese partners, such as private galleries, libraries, disabled persons unions and associations and other concerned parties. Many embassies of EU members in China have already pledged their support for this campaign.

Furthermore, all EUNIC members will actively promote these events through their social media platforms and communication networks. The campaign has started in April and is scheduled to conclude in December.
