
A destroyed bridge over the Forqueta River hangs between the towns of Marques de Souza and Travesseiro, in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, on May 21, 2024. More than 600,000 people have been displaced by the heavy rain, flooding and mudslides that have ravaged the south of the state for around two weeks. The death toll has risen to 161 due to the extended extreme weather, the Civil Defense agency said.
