Two people were injured in a car explosion in Moscow, local media reported on Wednesday.

The explosion was caused by the detonation of an unidentified object in a car parked in the courtyard of a residential building in northern Moscow, Russia's TASS News Agency quoted spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs Irina Volk as saying.

"In connection with the incident on Sinyavinskaya Street in Moscow, which resulted in vehicle damage and injuries to the car owner and a passenger, a criminal case has been initiated," said the Investigative Committee of Russia's Main Investigative Department for Moscow.

Investigators and forensic experts are currently examining the scene. A series of investigations, including medical and explosive examinations, will be conducted.
