The Thai Consulate General in Shanghai hosted an open day event on November 15, hosting about 100 Thai nationals and Chinese friends to observe the Loy Krathong Festival. The participation of the two peoples deepened their understanding of the Thai cultural heritage.

Prinat Apirat, consul general of Thailand in Shanghai, gave opening remarks.

During the event, a "Miss Loy Krathong" contest was held. Thai and Chinese people also participated in a talent show, performing Thai dances and songs on the stage. With environmentally friendly materials and tools, the attendees made Thai lanterns, competing for the prize of the most beautiful lantern, taking selfies, and learning the origin of the Thai Loy Krathong Festival.

Every year during the Loy Krathong Festival, Thai people float small boats of offerings as tokens of gratitude toward the goddess of water. The festival falls on the full moon night of the 15th day of the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar every year.
