The Embassy of Singapore hosted a New Year reception in Beijing on January 7.
More than 200 Singaporeans in China celebrated the New Year's Day and experienced the atmosphere of the Chinese New Year in advance.
Lohei, also known as
yee sang or "prosperity toss," is a kind of raw fish salad eaten during the Chinese New Year, popular in the Chinese communities in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It is an indispensable custom for Singaporean Chinese people to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Peter Tan Hai Chuan, Singaporean Ambassador to China, spent a vibrant time with the guests, enjoying the festive atmosphere of the New Year.
Singapore's consuls general in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Xiamen also attended the event to extend New Year blessings to Singaporean compatriots.
